So I built Merry. An app that takes any video file, remuxes it to MP4 in seconds without touching a single pixel — and when remuxing isn't possible, it transcodes cleanly, tells you exactly what it did, and hands you a file ready to edit. Right inside your project.

HOW IT WORKS
Step 1 - Analysis
Merry inspects every file: video codec, audio tracks, container, metadata.
Step 2 — Remux when possible
If the codecs are MP4-compatible, Merry remuxes: it swaps the container without touching a single pixel. Blazing fast. 100% original quality preserved.
Step 3 — Transcode when needed
If the file can't be remuxed (AV1, VP9, certain AVI codecs…), Merry transcodes cleanly to MP4. You're told exactly which strategy was applied to each file — no surprises.
Step 4 — Ready to edit
The output MP4 works with every editing app: Final Cut Pro, CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and any other NLE. Using Premiere Pro or DaVinci? Merry can import it directly into your open project.

When possible, Merry doesn't touch your video or audio data. It rewraps the file into a new container — in seconds, at copy speed. H.264, H.265, ProRes: original quality guaranteed.
Smart transcoding fallback
AV1, VP9, certain AVI or exotic codecs can't be remuxed into MP4. Merry detects this automatically and switches to a clean transcode. You see clearly which strategy was applied to each file.

Remuxing only changes the file container (e.g. MKV → MP4) without modifying the video or audio data. It's near-instant and lossless. Transcoding re-encodes the data — necessary when the codecs aren't MP4-compatible. Merry picks the right option automatically and tells you which one it used.
When the source file's video or audio codec isn't compatible with the MP4 container — typically AV1, VP9, certain AVI codecs, or audio tracks in FLAC / Opus / Vorbis.
